The Committee on Special
Education(CSE) process can be complex and difficult to navigate for
many families.Meetings can often be the source of great apprehension
and confusion for parents. Added to the daily stress associated with
raising a child with a disability ‐ it can all feel overwhelming. It is
critical that parents understand the CSE process so they can engage
meaningfully as collaborative members of their children’s
decision-making team. They need to learn what information is
considered, who the participants are, and the impact of their child’s
specific disability on decisions made about educational placement. The
Hudson Valley Special Education Parent Center (SEPC) is a free resource
providing education and information and facilitating effective
communication between families and school districts so that the process
can be less stressful leading to positive outcomes for students with
disabilities.
