There exists a wealth of resources on numerous online sites all dedicated to providing persons with disabilities, families, and prfessionals with accurate information and support. These include the following:

New York State Education Department Office of Special Education
http://www.p12.nysed.gov/specialed/
The Special Education Office provides assistance to parents, advocacy groups, and schools related to services and programs for students with disabilities. This site contains many resources, documents, and other comprehensive information. Read through the publications and policy memos issued by the special education office at NYSED. Under the ‘Publications’ tab in the center along the top of the website page. Memos can be searched by date, or alphabetically by topic. If you have a question about anything relating to special education see if there is a memo related to the topic in question. The “News” tab on the top-left is another good way to stay current on special education policy issues in NYS.

New York ACTS
www.nyacts.org  - This site was developed by the New York State Interagency Task Force on Autism, a partnership of 11 NY State agencies and provides information about autism, including services,  policy initiatives, relevant laws, events and trainings, news, FAQs, and personal profiles -  all specific to NYS.

Parent to Parent USA
http://www.p2pusa.org
Parent to Parent is a national organization whose programs provide emotional and informational support to families of children who have special needs most notably by matching parents seeking support with an experienced, trained 'Support Parent'.

National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities (NICHCY)
www.nichcy.org
NICHCY is a national clearinghouse for families and professionals that offers information about disabilities and related services, assists with referrals, provides contacts for disability related services and programs in each state, and publishes a newsletter. NICHCY maintains a continually updated directory of local and state agencies. Download the resource sheet from your state.

Wrightslaw

This site provides information about special education law, education law, and advocacy for children with disabilities. It presents information developed for parents, educators, advocates, and attorneys in lay terms.

LD Online
www.ldonline.com
LD OnLine provides information about learning disabilities, learning disorders and differences. Parents and teachers of learning disabled children will find resouces on attention deficit disorder, ADD / ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dysnomia, reading difficulties, speech and related disorders.

The National Association of Parents with Children in Special Education (NAPCSE)

NAPCSE is a national association that is dedicated to ensuring that all children and adolescents with special needs receive the best education possible. NAPCSE serves the interest of parents with children in special education by giving them numerous resources within the field of special education.
